Italy’s largest flat products rolling mill outside the Po Valley, located in the industrial zone near Caserta. The Aluminium Stewardship Initiative register lists for the company aluminium remelting, recycling and refining and alloying alongside hot rolling and extrusion, which means its own slab foundry fed, among others, with circulating and purchased scrap. The group has ten companies, including Italcoat (strip painting), IPS Industrial Packaging Solution (packaging foil), Contital (trays and rolls) and i2r units in South Korea and North America; the certification scope covers the Laminazione Sottile, Italcoat and IPS plants. The stated capacity of 120 kt per year relates to rolled product, not scrap remelting alone. In recent years the plant commissioned a new hot finishing rolling mill. The plant in San Marco Evangelista near Caserta is the core of the Italian Laminazione Sottile group, which also includes companies converting strip into foil and finished products. Production covers strip and sheet for packaging, construction and general industry. The plant near Caserta is fully integrated: from the foundry and hot rolling mill, through two cold rolling mills, to three foil rolling mills, so it produces products in the range from 6 mm to 6 µm at a capacity of over 120 kt per year (the figure covers all flat products, not foil alone). The third foil rolling mill was commissioned in 2022, and in 2023 a new MINO hot finishing rolling mill started with a strip width of 2150 mm and a force of 3500 t, which makes the plant the only one in Italy with a 1+1 type hot line. Foil feeds mainly the group’s own converting operations (Contital aluminium containers) and flexible packaging customers in Europe and the Mediterranean basin. The company is a member of the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative; it does not publish the share of scrap in the feedstock.
