Befesa’s only secondary aluminium production plant in Germany, built from scratch in 2012–2014 (hot commissioning in September 2014, production from December 2014). It processes aluminium scrap, dross and other aluminium-bearing residues into casting alloys for the automotive industry and packaging, with a significant part of output shipped as liquid metal directly to customer foundries, saving them remelting. The furnace fleet is based on tilting rotary furnaces, holding furnaces and automated ingot casting lines. Nominal capacity in the 2025 annual report is 75 kt; an expansion to 135 kt is under way, with completion announced for 2026. In 2025 Befesa’s entire secondary aluminium segment produced 154 kt at capacity utilisation of 75%, under pressure from weak automotive demand in Europe.
