- Note: Aldel was the only primary aluminium producer in the Netherlands (approx. 110 kt per year); electrolysis was stopped in October 2021 because of energy prices, after which the plant operated solely as a secondary aluminium remelter with a capacity of approx. 50 kt per year. The history is a string of bankruptcies and takeovers: bankruptcy in December 2013, takeover by Klesch Group in 2015, further trouble in 2017, and finally bankruptcy declared by the Groningen court on 27–28 October 2022; a takeover by Aloft was meant to be the rescue. Demolition of the halls began in 2023 with completion planned for 2025, together with asbestos remediation, and in April 2023 the ten-hectare site was sold for EUR 12 million to GIGA Storage for an energy storage facility. The capacity of 50 kt given comes from secondary studies, not from a company document.
